I think everyone agrees that our new name badges have enabled easier contact with other members, especially where our memories are not quite as good as they once were!
The badges also speed up registration at Coffee Mornings and often names can be seen on the badge when one forgets to register. For safety reasons, the Register must show the names of all present in the building. Can I please ask that we all make an effort to wear our badges so that they can be seen.
I still have several cards waiting to be collected and always have a supply of holders for those not yet given one.

Dear Friends
There’s a new feature on our website www.salisburyu3a.org.uk which I hope will be of interest. On the “Meetings” page, which lists the Coffee Morning speakers and their subjects, we have now added links which lead to the websites of the speakers, where they exist.
So for example, if you want to know more about our November speaker, the author Pauline Rowson talking about her Marine Mystery Crime novels, click the link. This will take you to a website where Pauline writes about her novels, thrillers, her life as an author, book signings, talks and tours. There are even extracts from some of her radio interviews to listen to.
There are many more examples like this on our website, which will hopefully whet members’ appetites for coming to Coffee Mornings.
Happy surfing!
With best wishes
Gordon Pardy

Striders
In May we had a lovely walk in the Woodford Valley, starting and finishing at The Stables at Druids Lodge, we were a bit depleted in members for different reasons. Elizabeth and John Summerhayes treated us to a picnic at the end of the walk, it was a lovely treat which we all enjoyed.
Thursday 7 July 2011
Please meet outside the Co-op in Downton starting at 10 00am, we can park along the road, and will have lunch at the White Hart [next to the Co-op]. This is a 5.25 mile walk, a gentle meander along the meadows by the river, through the woods, footpaths over fields, a little bit of everything.
Please phone Pat 01722 710308 if you are coming.

Computing classes at SWGS
I have just heard that the government has withdrawn funding for these classes. It is likely that there will have to be a charge for these classes but nothing has been decided yet.
May I suggest that you sign up for the classes and withdraw later if the charges are more than you wish to pay. It is possible that they will find another source of funding so I think it is better to sign up to reserve your place. I will keep you posted.
Science Forum – this group will take place on the 3rd Monday of each month [not the 4th as shown in the programme]. This is to allow the scientifically minded to attend the Science and Technology meeting. Apologies for the error.
Many thanks

Bletchley Park [Monday 6 June]
This was the site of the UK’s main decryption establishment and the Government Code and Cypher School during World War 2 and now houses the National Museum of Computing. Forty of us enjoyed a fascinating day organised by Chris Perry, which ran like clockwork with plenty of comfort breaks, tea and coffee and opportunities to meet new friends. A visit to be recommended!

Visit to Somerset Levels
‘This promises to be an ‘out of the ordinary’ Visit and includes 2 very interesting venues located in the area known as the Somerset Levels. We will be going in July just before the [grand]children break up for their summer holidays and grandparent duties begin. Come and see me at the Visits Table at the coffee morning for more information and to put your name down.
Highgrove Gardens – Tuesday 23 August
This is the last call for payment from members who expressed the desire to join the visit. Please, please let me have your cheques no later than 15 June either by post to reache me by then or at the Coffee Morning. If I do not receive your payment by that date, then you will be deleted from the Visit and I can start to satisfy our eager waiting list. Alternately, if you have decided not to go let me know ASAP.
For those who have paid money may I remind you of the following instructions from Highgrove that MUST BE OBSERVED:
‘All visitors must bring some form of photographic information with them, ideally a passport, driving licence or bus pass [alternatively a utilities bill].
The itinerary for the day was included with your ‘package of information’ [either emailed or posted or collected at a Coffee Morning].
If you have mislaid sent item please ask me for a copy. [www.highgrovegardens.com]
