Dear Friends
Our head office, the Third Age Trust, has a section on Shared Learning on its website, as follows:
“Shared Learning Projects are research projects which focus on a topic proposed by an institution (such as a museum, art gallery, stately home or library) or proposed by U3A members themselves on a theme (such as a river, a town, a person or a philosophy). One of the main objectives is to undertake some stimulating work that will be of benefit to both the participants and to the institution in which the project is carried out.
“Over the last eight years, U3A has worked on Shared Learning Projects with some fifty museums in London and across the country – for example, The British Museum, Brighton Museum, the Foundling Museum, the Guildhall Library, Lytes Cary Manor House, Somerset, the Museum of London and Perth Museum, Scotland.”
At a local level there could be endless opportunities for Sarum U3A to work with the wider community, such as Salisbury Museum, the Civic Society, Wiltshire College, Age UK, to name but a few. If you have an idea for a project, please get in touch with me or another member of the committee and we can explore the possibilities!
With best wishes
Gordon Pardy

From the Groups Organiser
Programmes of Groups for 2011-12
Your new programme and application form for next year’s groups will be waiting for you at the May coffee morning. Please pick it up. If you are not at the coffee morning, you will receive it through the post.
Please read all the notes carefully so that you only apply for groups which you can attend reasonably regularly. Make sure you put your choices in priority order. Please get your application forms to me by the June coffee morning or you will miss the initial sort. You will receive your allocation to groups at the July coffee morning (or by post).
The vacancies list for all three U3As will be published as soon as I receive the information from Salisbury and Spire, but probably with the September Newsletter.
Many thanks
Linda
Local History Group – Missing File
Our file “The Chequers” was loaned to someone. It contains a lot of interesting and new information, the hard research work done by our members.
Please could you rack your brains and help us find it and archive it, so that others may benefit from it.

The Book Table
This facility has proved very popular for members to pick up a good read and relies on donations of good paperbacks for its success. There is limited storage space so ideally a steady supply is needed to balance redistribution. No more than 2 books at a time in any one month.
Paperback novels by recent authors are most popular. Please do not bring large batches of ancient hardbacks, textbooks or magazines that I have to take home for disposal.
