Universities of the Third Age (U3As) are voluntary self-help organisations for older people not in full time employment. The term University is used in the original sense of the word: a corporation of people devoted to various group activities, educational, creative and social, not necessarily intellectual. Each U3A relies on its members to participate actively, whether as group leaders, group members or in sharing the social responsibilities at corporate events, such as coffee mornings, addresses by guest speakers or visits. All U3As are affiliated to the national body, the Third Age Trust.
