PROJECT: 100 METRES OR 100 YDS

HOME
PROJECT INDEX
Using a film of 36 frames and completing the exercise on one occasion.

Each member chooses his or her own 100 metres. This is then used to take pictures moving along that distance from one end to the other. This imaginary line can be approximate in length and there is no need to stay exactly on it, a few strides to either side is fine.
From this 'line' images varying in every way must be taken, so that the student is forced into finding an image where, at first glance, there appears to be none.

Some 100 metres we have used:
100 metres through an open street market.
Round a cathedral or church.
From inside a house, down the garden path and along the road.
Circulating round a large town roundabout or a village green.

· Learning to look and compose an image
· Straight ahead and into the distance.
· Down at ones feet.
· High above ones head.
· To the left and right, near too and far away.
· Behind.
· Changes that occur during filming eg. People about, light changing etc.

Project exercised the following skills:

  • Moving to get the best composition.
  • Varying the focal length
  • Using an entire film in a short period
  • Managing the differing light conditions
