On a lovely Easter sunday and after a splendid lunch at Moy and Mike's six of us drove to the The Rufus Stone. We parked here and at 3pm set off on our 3 mile circular walk that had the aim of seeing the New Forest.
First we inspected the Memorial.
After a lovely walk in sunshine and noting all the Violets and Primroses growing in profusion and crossing some fords. Walked back along the minor road seeing several donkeys and tadpoles and wild periwinkle flowers.
Halfway round Sheila devised an Easter egg hill rolling competition. This consisted of each having a small gold foil wrapped egg that was flicked with the fingers as far as possible until the winner managed to get the egg onto the track. Moy won this easily!
We got back to the car after some 3 hours - rather longer than estimated by the description of the walk that was from Wessex Walks. In fact the walk was impossible to follow at the start and so we made up our own route. If you look now the route is entirely rewritten and probably OK. Included here are many other local walks that perhaps we should try sometime.
Back at Mike and Moy's house we tucked into Simnel cake. A wonderful day.
