Our Christmas meeting was a truly festive occasion. We were entertained by the Belletones, a group of hand bell ringers from Salisbury Methodist Church. The 14 ringers who rehearse with their conductor, Ruth, for one hour each week had us clapping and singing along to their musical programme of show tunes and Christmas Carols. Their arrangements of traditional tunes were charming. Their teamwork and synchronisation was impressive particularly when David and Christine, accompanied by Ray on guitar rang 14 bells between them to play “Greensleeves”. It was a delightful morning as we listened and then learned a little of the history of bell ringing. Then we amazed ourselves as the majority of us joined the team on chime bars and bell plates to perform and sing “Good King Wenceslas.
Members were reminded to buy their tickets for our New Year’s Party. The Bletchley Park visit in April will be a joint affair with the Salisbury and South Wilts Association. Those interested should contact Christine Perry who will organise this visit.
Neil Russell is hoping to arrange a basic computer training and help facility for us. This will involve the purchase of a computer and screen to enable live demonstrations here.
Chairman, Gordon Pardy, continued to add to our historical knowledge, this time Italian History. He informed us that on this day December 15th in AD 37 Emperor Nero was born; in 1970 Frankie Detori was born; in 2001 the leaning Tower of Pisa was re-opened
