SARUM U3A
In September a party of 29 wine lovers, mostly from Sarum U3A, went on a five day guided tour of Burgundy. A splendid time was had by all despite the coach breaking down on day two! One of the group writes: “I have very happy memories of our visit ranging from the mechanic lying under our coach when we emerged from the splendour of Chateau de Beaune to the very good spitting that some of us mastered, to the large restaurateur who reorganised tables to accommodate us so that we could sit in the sunshine under the vine leaves with the local pompiers, to the man suspected of theft who was chased by security men in the Carrefour supermarket.”
Back home, the October Coffee Morning was coincidentally held on the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of Sarum U3A. Ena Baldock introduced our speaker, human rights worker and former journalist Sharon Green, from the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), who related her experiences working as a peace monitor in Palestine. The EAPPI seeks to support local and international efforts to end the Israeli occupation and bring a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a just peace, based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. The role of participants in the programme includes: monitoring and reporting violations of human rights and international humanitarian law; supporting acts of non-violent resistance alongside local Palestinian and Israeli activists; offering protection through non-violent presence; engaging in public policy advocacy.
