SARUM U3A

What a surprise for members who attended our July coffee morning. The speaker was billed to be a shepherd, but here was Pat Reed introducing Mr Louis Atkinson, an exquisitely dressed gentleman! No offence intended to shepherds anywhere. Louis worked in the fashion industry for Christian Dior in London Perugia and Paris. Almost by accident, he became the owner of 16 sick and orphaned lambs, which he nursed back to health in his spare time. So attracted to these herbivores, he increased his flock and is now the shepherd to 3000 ewes. But no ordinary shepherd! We discovered during his 40 minute talk that Louis’ true vocation was as a raconteur par excellence of hilarious tales of country folk and shepherding incidents. Jean McFarlane gave the vote of thanks.

Members were invited to join a Sarum U3A outing, on August 25th, to Boyton Farm. This is a traditional mixed farm, home to Tamworth pigs, Poll Dorset and Hampshire Down sheep and Sussex cows. There is a farm shop, pottery and studio as well. Please contact Pat Reed for tickets.

Our Chairman, Gordon Pardy, reminded us that on this day, July 21st 1969, Edwin Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon, adding to our growing store of useful facts.

Please remember that the August  coffee morning will be held in St Francis Church
