MAY 2013 COFFEE MORNING

This month’s Coffee Morning was an “in-house” affair. Instead of coffee and meeting friends, followed by a talk from a visiting speaker, we spent the morning reviewing the activities of our varied and interesting Groups.
Stalls proudly depicting group activities lined the sides of St Francis Church. We gathered around the display of the Painting For Pleasure group, admiring the quality of the painting and variety of subject, and watched one of the artists at work. The Wood Carvers attracted much attention, as did the work on the Needlework stall. There are three walking groups in Sarum U3A and they combined to give a lively display of photographs and walking routes. Another display showed the work of the Digital Imagers.

Other popular groups are the Local History Group and the History of Churches and Pubs. Pat Carter explained that the Local History members had researched the houses in the Cathedral Close this year, and next year will research Old Sarum. We heard Group leaders of Foreign Films, UK Holidays (to be called UK in Focus next year), Theatre Visits and Discussion, Family History, Advanced French, and Useful Latin. Maureen Pardy, who runs six groups, explained about on-line courses which are available to Members.

All Group leaders were thanked, and there was great applause for Anna Taylor who organised the morning. Members were encouraged to select the Groups they wish to join next year as quickly as possible, and to return forms to Mick Watts, Groups Organiser.
