The May Coffee morning was an extremely pleasurable occasion. This year we are celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of U3A in the United Kingdom. This we did with a beautiful, specially commissioned anniversary cake, which Chairman Jenny Mawer and helpers cut for each member to enjoy. This was also a fitting time to welcome new members to our Wednesday meetings.
May is the time to celebrate our 73 activity groups. St Francis Church was a delight to behold, as groups as varied as Woodwork, Needlecraft, Painting for Pleasure, Family History, Development of Science, Appreciation of Trees, Digital Imaging, and many others, displayed their skills and achievements. Anna Taylor was thanked for organising this display and for co-ordinating the interesting talks given by leaders and members of other groups. We heard how the Writing for Pleasure Group took part in a nationwide short story competition on Third Age Romance! The Poets entertained us with a variety of delightful and amusing poems. Walkers, Book Readers, Scientists, Bird Watchers, Film and Computer buffs, and many others, reminded us of the pleasure, learning, and enthusiasm, to be found as members of our various Groups.
We received our impressive new Programme of Groups for 2012/13 from our GroupsĀ Organiser, Linda Farrow. Choices should be made by the June Coffee Morning. Chairman Jenny Mawer asked for volunteers to help, either by joining the Committee, or to do specific tasks when the need arises. They will be given a warm welcome.
