There was a large turnout of members for this month's Coffee Morning. The AGM was held prior to our speaker, Denise Edwards, who described her career from swimming instructor and Aquashow performer through to stuntwoman and finally a stunt coordinator.
No report can do justice to this spellbinding and entertaining talk which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The display of photographs she had of her work added to the appreciation of the risky job she did.
She gave a detailed account of some of the stunts she had done and also a description of what was involved and the precautions taken in setting up the stunts. They included being set on fire, jumping out of a 17th floor window and getting knocked down by a car. Preparation for this latter stunt consisted of finding a quiet place where her husband could drive at her at up to 25mph so that she could work out the best way of achieving it. In fact when it came to the filming the technique used was to put the carinto reverse with her already on the bonnet.We also heard of the many skills and the 6-year apprenticeship required to join the Stunt Register in order to do film and TV work.
In addition to the normal routine of an AGM our Chairman, Gordon Pardy, reported there are now 350 members who participate in the activities of 57 groups - information about which is on our website and in the Library.
He thanked the many people whose hard work through the year made all the activities possible.
