SARUM U3A
“AGM” was the ongoing theme of the March coffee morning with 128 members present anticipating “A Grand Morning’s” entertainment. Proceedings kicked off at high speed with Chairman Neil Russell completing the “Annual General Meeting” in 15 minutes flat.
Next up was guest speaker and “Authentic Gag Master” Nick Thomas, a freelance comedy writer whose credits include 23 series of the BBC’s “News Huddlines”. He gave us his take on “The Power of Humour in Everyday Life”, a gentle observation on the therapeutic value of humour. His talk was peppered with amusing anecdotes which kept his attentive audience continually chuckling. He summed up with the Proverbs 17:22 quotation: “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine”.
Next, we were treated to an “Activities Group Mélange”, an exhibition of the products of group activities over the past year demonstrating the rich variety of U3A pursuits: Photography and Digital Imaging, Avon Artists, Advanced French, Sharing Needlecrafts, Woodcarving, Handmade Greetings Cards, Music Appreciation, Art and Artists, Bird Watching, Alternative Healing Discussion, Gardening, Local History and 20th Century Writers in Paris.

Finally, group leaders enjoyed “A Glorious Meal” in the form of a buffet lunch.
Looking ahead, our speaker on 15th April will be Commodore Ian Gibb relating the story of his career in the Royal Navy “From Cadet to Commodore & Beyond”.
