The Annual General Meeting of Sarum U3A was held in St Francis Church Hall on Wednesday 15 March attended by more than 110 members. Members socialised over coffee before the meeting surrounded by an exhibition put on by the various groups displaying the type of activities they were engaged in. It showed the activities of the Woodcarvers, the Town and Country Inns, Small Collectables, Local Civil War History, Book Readers, Basic French, Bird Watching for Beginners, Digital Photography and Digital Imaging and others. The monthly Book Exchange table was also available to members. Information about the activities of the Strollers, Science Forum, Playhouse Discussion, Archaeology and Choir were given in the monthly Newsletter. Members were asked for ideas for new groups for the next year and interesting topics ranging from Natural History through Scrabble to Orienteering have already been suggested. At the Annual General Meeting we said goodbye and a big thank you to our retiring Chairman Peter Tee who has served us well over the past 2 years. He added to his Annual Report that had already been published in the monthly Newsletter the news that we now have a thriving membership of 260 (and rising) with 38 groups engaged in a variety of activities, discussions, research and study. Our new Chairman, Josephine Hawkins was elected together with Officers; Treasurer – Bryan Griffiths; Groups Organiser – Jean Lunnon; Membership Secretary – Phyl Mullins; and the Committee – Clare Edwards, Ena Baldock, Alan Reeve, Barbara Prince, Gill Hinton and Jenny Mawer. The Treasurer, Bryan Griffiths, made an upbeat report on the state of our finances partly due to care over expenditure and partly to members being prompt in paying their annual subscription. The meeting ended with a presentation to our retiring Chairman and a “thank you” party to group leaders. New members are very welcome to join Sarum U3A. The next meeting is the monthly Coffee Morning to be held on 19 April when the speaker will be Roy Deacon on “The Great Storm”. Information on membership can be obtained by phoning 01722 322570 |
