Not many people would be able to find career opportunities in a quarry, but that is what our speaker, David Boag, did. He is a wild-life photographer who was engaged by Aggregate Industries, a company working quarries throughout the United States. His task was to search for and photograph the flora and fauna there. He, with his wife as companion and assistant, spent three years in the vast areas of working quarries. They found them to be full of species of all kinds living undisturbed by man’s activities. Their work has resulted in a book revealing the alternate richness of quarries.
David’s photography is magnificent and his animations very amusing. We saw pelicans, mule deer, rutting elks, and head banging bighorns, rattlesnakes, and prairie dogs, to name but a few. We visited subtropical Everglades, deserts, mountains, and northern forests. The light-hearted commentary entertained but never let us forget the patience and skill to spot, identify, and photograph these wonderful creatures.
