SARUM U3A
On Wednesday 15th January a large turnout of Sarum U3A members gathered both to celebrate the New Year and also the 17th Anniversary of the group's foundation.
It gave members a good opportunity to socialise and also to be well entertained. The entertainment started with an amusing approach to the history of the Battle of Hastings - a poem introduced and read by Neil Russell. This was followed by a sketch written by Phyl Mullins and acted by the author ably assisted by Clare Edwards and Pat Watkinson which was a further instalment of 3 ladies discussing local events over coffee at the Copper Kettle Tearooms.
These led up to a hilarious short film called Dinner for One. Telling the story of the birthday dinner party celebration for a lady (played by May Warden) and her 4 absentee guests being waited on by the butler (played by Freddie Frinton) It is not possible to give a description which would do it justice but suffice it to say that the hall was filled with gales of laughter for the duration of the film.
Our celebration ended with a delicious buffet lunch. Many thanks are due to the stalwart helpers who provided coffee, the entertainment, lunch, drinks, sold tickets and who set up and operated the sound system and who made a valuable contribution to a most enjoyable morning.
