Dear Friends
Everyone had a great time at the September Crafty Lunch. 70 members of the three Salisbury U3As got together to share a love of arts and crafts, enjoy a delicious lunch and socialise. Preparations at Alderbury Village Hall started around 10.00 am as exhibitors poured in with carloads of exhibits to set up. Tables were laid, the art groups vied for hanging space and Jill Kay and her band of caterers conjured up a wonderful lunch. At midday the guests arrived and were greeted with a rich display of art and craft work including, tapestry, embroidery, beadwork, origami, knitting, wood carving, upholstery, cards and photography. In between lunch courses there were demonstrations of beadwork, tapestry and quilting; David Salter gave an enthralling master-class in watercolour painting; and Peter Read manipulated digital images with wizardry and flair. Altogether a very enjoyable occasion and thanks to all the exhibitors. Photos of the Crafty Lunch can be found under the Joint Activities menu HERE
Last year we had the Hog Roast, this year the Crafty Lunch. If you have an idea for a joint Salisbury U3As event for next year, please get in touch.

Golf Croquet Section
The 2010 Golf Croquet season (for Sarum, Salisbury and Spire members) was most enjoyable. The weather was particularly kind, with play on every scheduled Monday and only 10 minutes lost in the middle of one afternoon due to rain. There were 3 ‘special’ sessions.
For the second half of one Monday afternoon, we were fortunate to have 2 members of the Hamptworth Club who came and demonstrated various shots and coached us, including giving us some tactical hints. This was followed by scones with jam and cream and a cup of tea. On one Thursday morning, a group of us went to Hamptworth and tried our luck on their lawns. We stayed for lunch and then, in the afternoon, watched a coaching session for Association Croquet. Tea and biscuits in the driving range pavilion followed the final session.
In 2011, we are moving to Wednesdays from 6 April to 28 September inclusive, from 1.30 pm. Because of rebuilding work, the croquet ‘lawn’ will be moving to the other side of the artificial pitch. I will be contacting all current members in March 2011 but there will be room for new members. If you have not played before or wish to try once to see if you enjoy it, you will be welcome to come for a trial session for £1 and then you can join if you wish to continue.
