Dear Friends
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR THOSE RECEIVING THE NEWSLETTER BY EMAIL – Our September Coffee Morning will again be held in ST FRANCIS CHURCH at the request of the vicar, but I’m assured we will be back in St Francis Hall in October! Please remember to register when you arrive as we need to hold a full list of attendees in case of emergency.
You may be interested to know that there are now 763 U3As in the United Kingdom with a total membership of 247,571; and membership grows by 10% every year!
A one-day U3A Regional Conference is to be held at Cricket St Thomas, near Chard, Somerset on Friday 12 November. The themes of the Conference are “Successful Ageing” and “Active Retirement”. Each U3A has been allocated 3 places and I’ll be going – so there are 2 spare places. If you would like to come along (I’ll drive), please speak to me at the Coffee Morning or phone on 01722 504295.

Sarum U3A Outing to Boyton Farm
On 25 August, probably the wettest day of the year so far, 20 intrepid Sarum U3A members paid a visit to The Ginger Piggery at Boyton Farm in the Wylye Valley. The trip was organised by our very own Pat Read in-between booking speakers for our Coffee Mornings. After perusing the craft offerings in the Black Barn Gallery and tempting food in the farm shop and butchery (everything within their shelves is either homemade or sourced within 48 miles of their homestead), we were taken on a 2-hour guided tour of the farm. Transported over rugged terrain in a covered trailer towed by a powerful tractor, we stopped periodically to view the wonderful soggy downland and drenched animals. Our host, the charismatic hard-working farm owner Caroline Wheatley-Hubbard, informed us that Boyton Farm covers 2,500 acres between the A36, A303 and A350, and is home to the largest herd of delicious Tamworth pigs in the country. We also learned that they only sell their own meat at the farm shop and their meat is not sold anywhere else. At the end of the tour we all tumbled back into the restaurant, dripping but happy, for scrumptious lasagne followed by mouth-watering fruit pudding. A thoroughly enjoyable half day out! Visit Kingston Lacy House & Gardens followed by leisure time for shopping and sightseeing in Bournemouth. Cost £18 (NT members £8 – bring Membership card!) to include coach travel, driver gratuity and entry to House and Gardens. Depart Wilton 9.45 am, Millstream Coach Park 10.00 am, Tesco’s 10.15 am. Return from Bournemouth 5.30 pm.
