          FROM THE CHAIRMAN

I hope you are all enjoying the hot weather.  We have just returned from a week in west Cornwall, the cliffs and sea were at their best.

It seems hard to have to plan for the Autumn, but with Jean Lunnon’s list of Groups before us, that is what we have to do.  I see there are several new Groups and this could be an opportunity to try something different.  If you’ve never played Mah Jong, it’s great fun and not at all difficult. Numbers for fun appeals to me and how about Scrabble? The choices seem to be endless. Please use all your five options and I’d like to thank those who are going to lead Groups, in advance, for their time and effort.

I was sorry to miss last month’s speaker but am looking forward to hearing about being a Clerk to a High Court Judge this month and the Mission Aviation Fellowship in July.  Many members are unable to attend the coffee mornings.  However, if you can manage to come on the occasional third Wednesday, we should love to see you.     Josephine Hawkins

COFFEE MORNING

SPEAKERS

July 19 Richard Munroe on 'Mission Aviation Fellowship - Medical and Spiritual Help'.

COME BY BUS!

Olive Cork writes: We are fortunate that St. Francis Church Hall has such good parking facilities, but there are often more cars than spaces.  This may discourage some people from attending Coffee Mornings.

As free bus passes are available for the Over-60’s, it makes sense to use them wherever possible!  I can recommend the 62 bus which leaves the bus stop near Tesco in Castle Street at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour. This is a loop line.  The route is along Stratford Road and up Waters Road, crossing Castle Road and turning into St. Francis Road. Don’t get off the bus here as the next stop leaves a tidy step back to the Church Hall.  If you stay on the bus it will go up to Paul's Dene and then return to stop right outside the church. The return bus leaves the same stop just after the hour and the half hour. The conditions of use for a free bus pass are very generous, allowing travel to Bournemouth, Southampton, Marlborough, Swindon and points in between!  If you have not yet applied for a pass from Salisbury District Council, think about doing so and don't forget to pick up some timetables from the bus station. Leave the car at home!  See you at the next coffee morning.
