We are arranging a joint U3A lunch in order to foster contacts and interchange of ideas between our U3A's. This will take the form of a Hog Roast and we are planning it for Thursday 3rd September at Alderbury Village Hall, where we have indoor and outdoor facilities and a bar. More details later but if you are interested please put this date in your diary.
After a long period of service Bob Bradshaw has decided that
it is time for someone else to take over the duties of Newsletter
editor. I would like to express my thanks for all the work Bob has done
and for his contribution to Sarum U3A in maintaining this essential
communication link in our organisation. We therefore need a replacement
to take over these duties.
You will need to be able to use a computer and be familiar with MS Word
and e-mail. More information can be given to whoever takes on this
work. It may be workable to divide this job between two people if
required, all things are possible if we try.
This is an essential role in Sarum U3A as the Newsletter is our only
means of communication with members on a regular basis, so we need a
volunteer to come forward as soon as possible. I would remind everyone
that we can only operate with the positive assistance of all members
and any gaps in our organisation affect us all. We have a small number
of very loyal and hard working people but we never have enough and we
need more in order to maintain the high standards of service to our
members. No Editor, no Newsletter.
Please contact me by e-mail for more information at ngrussell@tiscali.co.uk
After many years of service to our U3A Mary Cole has decided that
it is time for her to retire. I would like to express our thanks to
Mary for all she has done providing the sandwiches and other goodies
for our New Year Parties and Leaders Lunches and wish her a well earned
rest from U3A duties.
This leaves a vacancy in our band of helpers and more help is
needed. We need someone to organise the purchase of the
sandwiches etc. (usually from M & S) twice a year and bring them to
the hall for the parties. That's all there is to it, but if you feel
like helping out with the serving as well you would be more than
welcome!
Please remember that Sarum U3A only exists because of all the
volunteers we have and I am sure there is someone who would welcome
this opportunity to contribute to our activities. Please contact
me or any committee member for any more information.

You will receive next year’s programme and application form
by post in the next few days. As you will see, almost all of our
stalwart group leaders are running groups next year. We are
grateful to them and to the new group leaders for their generosity in
providing such interesting options.
Take time to read the notes accompanying the programme to make sure the
groups you apply for suit your needs and that you can attend regularly.
It is really important to put your choices in priority order. I shall
do my best to give you all your first choice (and the others
too!”) but there are many constraints on group sizes and numbers
are inevitably limited.
If you particularly want to be with a friend or partner in any group, it is vital that you put it as the same priority.
Please make sure that I have your applications by 19th June at the
latest. I will be at the coffee morning on the 17th June to collect
them. You will be able to collect your allocation slips at the July
coffee morning. If you are not there I shall post them to you
immediately afterwards.
Group Leaders. I will send you a list of the members of your group and
any people on the waiting list with their phone numbers. If vacancies
occur during the year, please fill them from this list. Happy New
U3A Year! Linda Farrow

One of the Local History groups met for tea in the Old George
Tearooms recently, intending to stroll around Salisbury using the Civic
Society Website ‘Salisburyplaques’ map. However, the
Tearooms owner offered to show us round not only the café area,
but also other parts of the historic building which are rarely seen. We
nimbly negotiated 13th century floor boards, ancient stairs and haunted
attics and were given a detailed architectural tour, seeing the
bedrooms where Samuel Pepys and Buddy Holly slept. Anyone going for
coffee, lunch or tea can enjoy the impressive old timberwork of the
first floor – the entrance is through the gift shop in the High
Street next to the Old George Mall.
