Whether they are walking briskly, ambling gently, making curry, stitching patchwork, or singing, members of the Launceston U3A visiting Salisbury, agreed enthusiastically with their Sarum U3A guests, that this is the way to make friends and enjoy retirement.
Phyll Babb`s involvement in forming U3As in Cornwall and her anecdotes provoked the comment, “You`ve got a real job on to get money out of a Cornishman!”
Jim Watkinson took folders of the Chequer Project which his group had prepared. They caused great interest and I expected to see Launceston members speed walking the twenty chequers on Saturday morning. As they were visiting the cathedral, I took a picture of the “love it or hate it” font with the Christmas angel reflected in the water. Pat Watkinson`s mah-jong group raised a few eyebrows. Perhaps it has not yet crossed the Tamar?
We had a lively evening: lots of questions, lots of hilarity.
I was so pleased that one member knew the Launceston of 1948 when I was a locum pharmacist there for many weeks. In one photograph there was a glimpse of his mother’s house!
There is a copy of “1000 years of Launceston” on its way. We shall keep in touch!!
