From the Chairman:

This week I invited several new members to coffee at my home, as has been the practice for a while in Sarum.  Together with Jean Lunnon, the Groups Organizer, it gave us a chance to meet them, for them to meet us, and to find out more about how our U3A works.  We were able also to discuss their interests and how involved they have become so far.

One suggestion made by them was to put full details of the time and place of the monthly coffee mornings in the Newsletter regularly for the benefit of new members.

The monthly meetings are always held on the third Wednesday of each month at St. Francis Church Hall, which is behind the church on Castle Road.  Coffee is available from 10.am and the meeting starts at 10.30am.  We have a very good programme of speakers, as shown in the Newsletter, and so I do hope that as many of you as possible will come along whenever you can.  Should anyone want any further information, my phone number is 322018.  I hope to meet more of you personally as time goes on.

Peter Tee.

This Wednesday 20th April, our speaker will be Mrs Ann Orr on, "Protecting You, Your Family, Your Home and Your Assets"
An interesting and informative talk.

GROUPS and EDUCATION

Walkers Group
N.B.
A change of programme
The walk to be led by Aileen Manchee from The Pelican at Stapleford on 31 March will now take place on 28 April

Strollers Group
Thursday 28 April we shall meet at the Breamore House car park around 10.15am and walk up through the bluebell woods. The turning to Breamore is a couple of miles past Downton.

NEW GROUPS PLANNING

The following have been suggested for new groups starting from September 2005:
·    History (other than local)
·    History of Music
·    Environmental Studies.
·    Crochet
·    Cake icing
·    3D Découpage
Would any member be prepared to co-ordinate one of these? The first three could be “shared learning” using U3A study resources; the last three require a leader with some experience of the skill involved.

Offers to co-ordinate the following new groups have been received:
·    Town & Country Inns
·    Spanish
·    Looking after your Car
·    Local Civil War History  (replacing ‘Herbert’)
·    Writers on Wessex (replacing ‘Hardy’)
·    Knitting ‘Teddies for Tragedy’
Any other ideas? Phone Groups Organizer on 335909
