Programme for March Meeting
The programme for the March meeting will be a little different from usual.  The first item is the all-important Annual General Meeting, to which all members are urged to attend.
After the AGM there will be a video presentation from the Third Age Trust entitled ‘Learning Through Experience’, followed by some short presentations by a number of Group Leaders about their group activities and (if I can persuade them) their plans for the coming year.
Do come along and give the Group Leaders your support.

“The Great Salisbury Train Disaster 1906” is the title of the talk by George Fleming on the social conditions and personal heroism of Salisbury people in 1906.

 

New Groups for 2010-2011

There are all sorts of fascinating opportunities for on-line learning through U3A:  China in transition – from Mao to Now;  Kings and Queens of England;  Religions of the World;  Astronomy;  Artists of Spain;  these are just a few of the subjects on offer.  I suggest you have a look at the list on the website and see what tempts you www.u3aonline.org.au.  Why not run a group and enjoy studying collaboratively and make friends at the same time?
This year for the on-line courses we all logged on individually but only one member of a group needs to have a computer; they can register as the group leader and download information for the group.  No previous knowledge or study is needed!  Any other suggestions will be gratefully received. I will have Group Leader forms with me at the AGM!  I will be happy to offer advice and support.

Walking Group

Meet at the White Hart, Bishopstone at 10.00 am for a walk of approximately 5½ miles along farm tracks and the Old Shaftesbury Drove.  If you would like to join us, please ring Mary Compton (336609) by Tuesday 23rd March.

Friday/Saturday 4/5 June
LONDON VISIT – TROOPING THE COLOUR (The Colonel’s Review).  An allocation of tickets has been requested for this popular annual event.  On Friday, visit the Tate Britain to see the largest collection of British Historic modern and contemporary art covering over 500 years.  A Henry Moore Exhibition is also available at extra cost.  Overnight stay at Civil Service Club on a room and full English breakfast basis. Do try to share as single rooms will be very limited. Need to be seated for the Review at 10.00 am on Saturday.  HRH The Prince Philip will attend the Review. Afternoon at leisure. Coach returns approx 6 pm.
Cost: £85.00 sharing a room. Single room supplement £30.
Depart Millstream Coach Park, Castle Street 9.00 am.  Pay in full now or £45.00 deposit with balance by 5 May latest.

Thursday 15 July
Visit a small, family run LAVENDER FARM situated between Selborne and Alton.  An afternoon guided tour of the farm and distillery and a stroll through the lavender fields follwed by cream tea in the farmhouse garden.

Visit to CHICHESTER. City Guided Walking tour and Cathedral visit followed by leisure time and afternoon Harbour Boat trip.  Booking and further details from May.

Thursday 9 September
Morning visit to HAMPTON COURT PALACE, GARDENS and MAZE followed by afternoon Thames River Cruise.

Thursday 5 August to Sunday 8 August
PROPOSED VISIT TO EDINBURGH for the MILITARY TATTOO (4 days 3 nights).
A visit to the Military Tattoo is planned staying at the De Vere Barony Castle Hotel, nr Peebles, on the Scottish borner set in 25 acres of woodland with indoor pool and gym.  Inclusive cost approx. £500.00 sharing a room. Single supplement £60.00.
Cost includes flight from Southampton Airport, coach transfers, 2 nts DBB and 1 nt BB at hotel, visit to Royal Yacht Britannia, guided tour of Edinburgh, reserved seat at Tattoo (10 min. walk to and from Castle venue!), coach excursion on theird day.  Minimum of 30 members required.
