From the Chairman
I hope you have all enjoyed this winter’s groups. By now the final sessions will be coming up. When you think of next year’s choices, make a resolution to try something new. We all get into a bit of a rut, sticking to things we have enjoyed over the years, but there is a lot of choice. Not only will you learn something new but you will meet different people, and with all our new members this could be very rewarding.
Again my thanks to you all for making my two years as chairman so enjoyable. I am sorry that I shall not be seeing you after April but I shall remember my time in Salisbury with pleasure. Before we moved here I had not been part of the U3A and now I am looking forward to meeting members in Holt and it will be fun to see what their choice of groups will be.

Groups Organiser
1) NEW GROUPS ORGANISER
Jean Lunnon writes: I am very pleased to say that Linda Farrow has volunteered to take over
as Sarum U3A Groups Organiser. As I stand down after nearly six years, I would like to thank the many
members who have helped to make putting together programmes and sorting members into groups so enjoyable.
I shall still be involved over the next few months as Linda eases herself into the role. I am sure
she will do a splendid job and receive the same warm support.
2) FRESH IDEAS FOR GROUPS
Spring is in the air and it’s time to set up some new groups for our next programme.
The U3A depends entirely on members contributing their skills. To coordinate a group, you just need enthusiasm, not necessarily specialist knowledge. Arrangements are flexible – you can ‘job-share’, group members can take it in turn to contribute, and venues can move round members’ homes. Meetings can be monthly, fortnightly or weekly for any part of the year, or even just occasional. If you would like to discuss an idea, please ring Jean on 335909 (Linda from April on 710599), or fill in the ‘Ideas Sheet’ at the AGM. Remember: no volunteers, no groups!
Walking Group
Thursday 27 March
The group will meet at The Talbot Inn, Berwick St John (Grid Reference 948224). Please note the start time is 9.45am. The walk is about 5 miles and is not flat! Please ring Duncan or Beth (333857) if you intend to join us.
Strollers

Summer Garden Visits Group
Wednesday 9 April
The group will be run this year by Christine Blaney. Visits will take place on the second Wednesday of each month from April to October. The first visit will be to Hilliers, near Romsey. This group is open to all members new and old. Please meet at Tesco's, Southampton Road car park (garage end) at 10am. Please contact Christine if you are interested (413887).

Archaeology
This is a joint group run by Spire U3A and meets in Harnham Hall on the last Tuesday in the month at
10.00.

Sunday Lunches
Salisbury U3A are happy for Sarum members to join them on their lunch outings. If you are interested, please contact Barbara Coulson (710597) at least 24 hours before the event for details of the venue. The lunches are on the Sunday following the first Wednesday of each month.

Coffee Mornings

Robert Baggs, a history of art book reviewer for several journals, will give a talk entitled “Great rivals make great art: the patronage of the Sassetti Chapel in Florence”.
Joint U3A Outings & Visits
National U3A Summer Schools 2008
Summer School North; 28-31 July at Harper Adams College, Telford.
Summer School South: 11-14 August at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester.

14 – 18 September 2008
A 5 day visit by Eurostar is planned to Strasbourg in the Alsace region of France. There will be visits to the Council of Europe and the European Parliament.
