From the Chairman
To begin may I wish you all a healthy and happy New Year and hope that you will get a lot of pleasure and satisfaction from your U3A activities, both culturally and socially, during the year ahead.
After the New Year Party this month we must think ahead to our A.G.M. on 16th March; before then we shall need nominations for the next Committee. Further information on this will be in next month's Newsletter.
Now, a word about joint U3A activities. A group of 10 members of the combined Salisbury U3As Health Care Research group, led by Anne Gould (Chairman of Spire) have been involved in an audit at Salisbury District Hospital into the state and use of hand washing facilities at the entrance to the wards, under the guidance of the Hospital Infection Control Team, to identify possible improvements. The comments of the Group were well received and a further audit is planned in a few months following campaigns in February and March.  More Information HERE
The next group meeting will be at Harnham Memorial Hall at 2.00pm on Friday, February 18th, when the Chief Pharmacist at the Hospital will talk about the work of her department and invite suggestions for improving the service. THOMAS HARDY GROUP
There has had to be a change of venue for the meeting on Monday 7th February. Please ring Jean on 335909 for details.
STROLLERS GROUP
The January Walk (Thurs 27th. Jan. 1030h) will start at Lake in the Woodford Valley. There is a car park behind the village hall ( OS 184 - MR133391 ). Lunch afterwards at The Bridge Inn , Upper Woodford. Contact Janet or Bryan Griffiths (01980 610405 or griff@evemail.net)
GROUP LEADERS' PARTY
Group Leaders might like to note in their diaries that this will take place immediately after the AGM and Exhibition on Wednesday 16 March. Invitations and reply slips will be sent out in due course.
PLAYHOUSE THEATRE DISCUSSION GROUP
The next meeting, to discuss Noel Coward's Relative Values will be on February Thursday 17th at 2.00pm.

The A.G.M. will be on 16th March. The committee would like an exhibition of your group's work. Please put this date in your diary and talk to your members about producing an interesting display.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
The annual subscription becomes due by January 31st. The subscription is £11 per person or £21 per couple living at the same address. I will have a table at the December and January meetings where subscriptions can be paid directly to me either by cash or cheque payable to Sarum U3A.
Payments at the February Meeting can be given to Peter Tee or Phyl. Mullins but cheques only (no cash). Please let me know if you are not renewing your membership -if payments are not received by March 31st we will assume you do not wish to continue your membership.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

January 19th sees our Party (11.00am until 1.00) in full swing. Thank you to all who have prepared and organised the food and the entertainment.

February 16th Coffee Morning. Our Speaker is Janice Sanders who works as a volunteer for Share and regularly visits, very poor villagers in Romania to offer health care.
A most entertaining speaker.
Senility
Now that I am older, here's what I have discovered:
I started out with nothing and still have most of it
My wild oats have turned to All Bran
I finally get my head together-and my body starts falling apart
Funny… I don't remember being absent minded
If all is not lost, where is it?
It's easier to get older than it is to get wiser

I wish the buck stopped here. I sure could use a few.

I seem to spend a lot of time thinking about the Hereafter. I go somewhere to get something and then wonder what I'm here after!
