PRESS RELEASE SPIRE U3A
The
April meeting at Harnham Memorial Hall for Spire U3A was the AGM and
the hall was full with latecomers having to stand at the back of the
hall.
Anne Gould thanked the committee and group leaders for all their work
and also all the members for making the Spire U3A such a success during
her past two years as Chairman. After chairing the meeting she
handed over the reins to Chris Penfold as the new Chairman.
Around the hall were small exhibitions from some of the groups such as
photography, embroidery, motoring and the art group. There were a
number of exhibits showing what to expect when joining a group such as
Family History, Local History and Historic House Visits.
Some group leaders gave a short résumé of the studies
they undertook among which were Reading group, Art and Artists
Appreciation and Simple Music Classes, to name just a few.
A surprise was arranged by the Health group. Two nursing sisters
gave up some of their free time to show us how to wash ones hands
correctly! A special gel was used instead of soap and an
ultra-violet lamp showed up the area missed by hand washing. Members
came away from this test amazed how badly they were doing this every
day task!
The first meeting of the new season will be on May 9th when membership
cards will be given out with the new programme of speakers.
The newsletter is in the U3A folder in the Reference Library and on the
Salisbury U3A website. For membership information please contact
