Salisbury & District U3A Press Report

December 2006

At the December meeting of the Salisbury and District U3A the chairman, Jack Leeming, thanked all who had made such a success of the Anniversary lunch in October.

Chris Dickson gave details of two new courses starting in January, and said there is a vacancy in the bowling group.

John Ewington announced that the trip to the BBC TV studios on January 17 is fully booked. On February 8 he plans a visit to the Playhouse to see “Shadowlands”, and on March 7 to the Mayflower to see “Carmen”. There are 2 places left for the Barcelona trip in April 2007.

Neville Jennings gave details of the summer school in July/August. He asked for volunteers to make the coffee in January, March and April.
Peter Allanson from Palmair gave a most interesting talk with slides on all the day trips available from Bournemouth. The farthest is to Egypt, visiting the valley of the Kings and the pyramids, but Palmair also visits Iceland, Poland, Spain, Hungary, Monaco, Berlin, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Moscow and St Petersburg, Norway, Prague, Salzburg, and many others. His commentary was especially interesting as he knew all these places and could give fascinating anecdotes about the people, and their customs. It is a wonderful way to see some exotic city and still be home at night.
