Salisbury & District U3A Press Report

May 2007

At the May meeting of the Salisbury U3A, a ballot was taken to decide whether the speaker should come before the announcements or after them. More than 60% voted to keep the existing arrangement of speaker after the announcements. Mike Limbrick, Secretary, said that in future a copy of his announcements will be displayed on the board at the monthly meetings. U3A diaries can be ordered now for £1.90. Please phone Mike. The U3A is holding a photographic competition. There is a national study day organised by journalists. A member from Coombe Bissett would appreciate a lift to the meetings each month. A volunteer is wanted to write the Press reports.

John Ewington talked about forthcoming outings, details of which can be found under Outings News.

Maggie Hunter announced that the new ruling barring dogs and children from U3A's organised walks has now been rescinded. Joan Brown asked for comments, for and against the food and nutrition at Salisbury District Hospital.
Ivan Raynsford Smith gave an amusing report on the Barcelona trip, which had been thoroughly enjoyed by 37 members.
Chris Dickson introduced several tutors with new courses for next year. Christine Tanner will teach a class on Oral History; Pam and Tony Ray on Mah Jongg; Marjory Leeming on Collectibles and Curios; Pamela Whitehead on Bach to Bernstein; Dennis Callaway on Digital Pictures; Helga Birt on Walks; Betty Waterson on Good Reads, Good Readers; John Illston on Sharing Music; Anne-Marie Seacroft on Reading a play by Moliere; and Chris Dickson on Local History. Joan New appealed for more people to join Scottish Country Dancing.
