Salisbury & District U3A Press Report
January 2008
New Year seems like a good time to think about holidays, so the subject for the talk at the January meeting was holidays with Saga. Although many in the audience had been on at least one Saga holiday we learned some surprising facts from the speaker, Brian Dunsgate. He is not a Saga employee, but a satisfied customer, who was able to speak from personal experience and with the aid of video clips about some of the great variety of Saga holidays on offer in Britain, the rest of Europe and worldwide. Saga is well known as a holiday operator specialising in holidays for the over 50s, but their newest cruise ship, Spirit of Adventure, is open to anyone over 21. Being a comparatively small vessel taking only 350 passengers, she is able to sail to places inaccessible to large cruise ships, so she is ideal for adventurous holidays to out of the way places. We also had a glimpse of the work of the Saga Charitable Trust. This supports projects that empower and assist underprivileged communities in developing countries that host Saga holidaymakers. It is funded by contributions from Saga holiday profits as well as donations from staff and customers. A rewarding holiday option is a working holiday assisting at one of the projects. |
