Salisbury & District U3A Meeting Report
January 2007
| At the January meeting the Chairman welcomed everyone, especially the new members. |
|
The Secretary asked for
nominations for committee members for the AGM in March. |
| The Civic Society is giving five lectures on Wednesdays in February on “Aspects of Heritage”. |
Barbara Last
gave a fascinating account of her t rip
to California to see the Mojave
desert and Death valley. Although there is very little water and fierce
heat up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit in July, she managed to find several
species, including mariposa lily, evening primrose, sage brush,
angel’s hair and Indian rice. The canyon is 50 miles long and 2 miles deep, with salt pans in the valley. Remains of the 1849 Gold Rush buildings are preserved by the dry heat, and some parts of the valley are well-known as so many Westerns were filmed there. |
